For many years Vodafone has been the leader in the mobile phone market and while often criticised for its pricing policies the company has reacted to the threat from mobile broadband providers and slashed the cost of its range of Dongles. The move affects those who have contracts with the group and will see them able to buy the Vodafone USB Modem Stick for just œ49 as oppose to the full price of œ99. The move is seen as a shot across the bows of Orange, O2 and T-Mobile, all of whom have been jockeying for position in this fast growing sector.
As well as offering customers a competitive pricing structure, after reducing the monthly cost of their broadband service, Vodafone can also claim to operate the fastest broadband network amongst their telecom rivals. The Vodafone broadband offering peaks at a maximum speed of 7.2Mbps, against 3.6Mbps for 3, and also has a much wider coverage area.
Mobile broadband is a sector which has been showing enormous growth of late and while there is much competition amongst the mobile phone network providers, it seems that Vodafone is starting to up the pace a little. There are few markets in which Vodafone is second best and it seems as though they are set to make a major play for this particular sector.
