As mentioned in one of our earlier post, Nintendo has announced plans to increase the cost of its award-winning Wii games console after the UK currency weakened substantially over the last six months. However, while the Nintendo Wii will increase in price by around œ20 over the next few weeks there are suggestions that Sony is looking to make inroads into the gaming community by exploiting this move.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that we will soon see a reduction in the price of the Sony PlayStation 3 console and the PSP handheld but to what extent and exactly when these movements will take place appears to be shrouded in mystery. It looks as though Sony is willing to reduce the cost of the PlayStation 3 in order to try and gain market share at the expense of the Nintendo Wii.
There is no doubt that the PlayStation 3 is an excellent games console, which also offers many more services and facilities, but up until now the price has been out of the range of many gamers in the UK. However, it looks at the situation may change in the short to medium term and we may well have a fight on our hands for the top spot come Christmas 2009!
